Our past initiatives

Supporting the arts in the community

A strong supporter of the arts, DBS had often led the way in presenting world premieres in Singapore.

Over the years, we had brought many world-class productions to Singapore - Phantom of the Opera, Forbidden City, Chicago, Riverdance, Les Misérables, Tap Dogs and Miss Saigon - and we have also supported the growth of local theatre companies, as well as visual art exhibitions.

In line with Singapore's mission of becoming the new Asian Renaissance city and regional hub for the arts, DBS opened the DBS Arts Centre - Home of the Singapore Repertory Theatre at Merbau Road. This venue welcomes artists and audiences from all over the world, providing an excellent platform for Asian artists to work alongside the world's best theatre practitioners and contributing to the growth of the arts in Singapore.

DBS continues to be an avid supporter of the arts. We were the presenting sponsor for Diaspora, a piece specially commissioned by the Singapore Government for the 2006 IMF/ World Bank meetings that narrated the Asian experience of migration and cultural displacement in the era of globalisation. In 2007, we also proudly presented Andrew Lloyd Weber's The Phantom of the Opera, the world's most successful musical, at the Esplanade.

For our contribution to the development of the arts in Singapore, DBS has been a recipient of the annual Patron of the Arts Award from the National Arts Council since 2002.
