DBS. Born and Bred in Asia
DBS Group Holdings (DBS) is the largest commercial banking group in Singapore
and Southeast Asia and is engaged in a wide range of commercial banking and
financial services. DBS is listed on the Singapore Exchange (SGX).
DBS has a presence in 15 markets, mainly in Asia. Its primary operations are
in Singapore and Hong Kong, two of Asia's best regulated markets, contributed
57% and 22% of net profit in 2009. It has a 99%-owned subsidiary in Indonesia,
PT Bank DBS Indonesia, and a 20% stake in the Bank of Philippines Islands. In
India, DBS has ten branches. In China, DBS has a locally-incorporated subsidiary with 16 branches and sub-branches.
In Taiwan, DBS has 40 branches.
DBS is a leading consumer bank in Singapore and Hong Kong, serving over 4
million and 1 million retail customers respectively. Consumer banking contributed
21% of revenues in 2009. Operating a two-brand strategy in Singapore, DBS and
mass-market brand POSB have 80 branches and 1,024 ATMs at various locations.
It also has leading market shares in mortgage loans and credit cards in Singapore.
In Hong Kong, DBS has an extensive branch and ATM network, operating 59 branches
and 71 ATMs.
Since its incorporation in 1968, DBS has been a partner in financing the growth
of Singapore companies, with a recent focus on growing its presence in the small
and medium enterprise (SME) market segment. In Hong Kong, DBS is an established
player in the SME market, with leading market shares in equipment and trade
finance.
DBS is also active in capital markets, with extensive product origination and
risk management capabilities. It has played a role in making available real
estate investment trusts (Reits) to investors in Singapore and the region. It
is also a well-regarded custodian for institutional investors and provider of
wealth management products for individuals.
DBS' asset quality is one of the best in Asia and the Bank's "AA-" and "Aa1"
