DBS COMPLETES BACK-UPS OF CUSTOMERS' RECORDS WELL AHEAD OF Y2K CROSSOVER

SINGAPORE, Dec 31, 1999 - DBS Bank has completed the backing-up of all customers' records, well ahead of the crossover into Year 2000 at midnight tonight. With all data, including customers' daily transactions and account balances, backed up by the scheduled time of 9.00 p.m. this evening, our customers can be reassured that their money is safe with DBS.

No unusual activity was reported today. Our ATM, phone banking and Internet banking services operated normally.

All DBS staff, including top management, are on stand-by during the crossover. At least 250 bank staff will be on duty today and tomorrow to perform wellness checks and monitor the event closely.
