Unusual Card Design Is First Of Its Kind In Asia
SINGAPORE, November 8, 2002 - DBS today unveiled a new credit card to target the young, upwardly mobile professionals in the 25-35 age group, upping the ante in the battle for this new emerging customer segment.
Named DBS mc2 MasterCard, the new card has a unique, eye-catching card design using translucent plastic and a distinctive, rounded corner - the first card design of its kind in Asia.
The first mc2 MasterCard was introduced in Latin America in July 2001. DBS is the first bank to issue the mc2 MasterCard in Asia.
Andy Chan, Managing Director of DBS Cards Services Singapore, said the bank has carefully researched the market to develop a new card that would appeal to this group of young, aspiring customers.
"Over the past 15 months, DBS has taken bold steps to re-invent and re-vitalise our brand. Just as we have introduced different cards for DBS and POSB customers, the DBS mc2 MasterCard has been developed to cater to the needs of this new emerging customer segment, " Chan said.
"The DBS mc2 MasterCard is an attitudinal, lifestyle card targeted at the unconventional, hip, trend setting crowd. The card acknowledges individuals who have their own tastes and values, and embodies their aspirations to express their individualism. That is why besides bundling exciting lifestyle benefits such as clubbing privileges, we are also offering three different card designs to cater to the distinctive needs of this customer group."
The DBS mc2 MasterCard is available in three different colour choices - Midnight Black; Slick Silver and Tango Orange.
Among the perks in its lifestyle benefits is DBS mc2 MasterCard exclusive arrangement with Centro, Restaurant 360 and Embargo - currently among the hottest spots in town - to extend special benefits to mc2 cardholders, such as discounts and priority entry.

The DBS mc2 MasterCard will be launched this Sunday, November 10. The campaign builds on the mc2 name, meaning 'on the double', twice, two times etc. Cardholders will find that many of the promotional benefits will have 'double' or '2' in it. For example, DBS mc2 MasterCard holders can get two free movie tickets for the price of one at Cathay Cineplex Orchard every last Friday of the month.
As part of its launch promotion, DBS will waive the annual fees for the first two years for all DBS mc2 MasterCard applicants.
DBS is the second largest credit card issuer in Singapore, with a card base of more than 500,000 cards.
