"Spyware" may be watching you

We strongly advise you to exercise caution when using any third party software that claims to speed up your Internet connections.

Such software or services may redirect your Internet session through their own server.

This may give them the ability to store and analyse your Internet activities. This may potentially include activities conducted during your secure sessions with POSB or any other secure Internet service.

Such software is broadly referred to as “Spyware”. Spyware takes on many forms. Some Spyware may look like a professional software package or service, while others may be obviously malicious.

Erring on the cautious, we are making the assumption that Spyware and redirector services can gain access to your usernames, passwords, credit card numbers, PINs, bank and purchase transactions, Internet browsing history, etc.

Such Spyware or redirector services may or may not have instituted privacy policies. In any case, POSB does not possess control over any third party's privacy policy. This means you effectively have no legal guarantee that these third parties will not misuse or share your data.

What you can do to protect yourself

  • We highly recommend that you do NOT visit the POSB website while any software that monitors or redirects your Internet session is present on your computer.
  • If you remember installing any software that claims to speed up your internet connection, or have additional third party toolbars on your browsers, then you may be either intentionally or unintentionally using software that has the ability to track your internet sessions. We recommend that you uninstall such software.
  • You can usually safely uninstall such software by going to your Control Panel, selecting Add/Remove Programs, then finding the named application and selecting Remove. However, we understand some software may make it quite difficult for you to perform a normal uninstall, in which case you may need to seek professional help to get it removed.
  • Educate yourself on “Spyware”. Be alert to any Spyware-like activities on your computer. Be suspicious if you get lots of pop-up banners or unsolicited email that appears to “know you too well”.

What we are doing to protect your interests

  • We are taking no chances and have been actively blocking traffic to dbs.com that has passed through redirector/Spyware services, and will continue to do so.
  • If you have at any time been denied access to our website, you may be either intentionally or inadvertently running redirector/Spyware software on your computer.
  • In such cases, we urge you to uninstall such software.
