I'd say use Pinterest to really create mood boards around looks/styles/colours that you like. I heard that some IDs also tend to be open to negotiation and are easier to chat with if you have your groundwork covered. Some of my peers have even created decks to showcase their preferred designs.

I'd say the biggest considerations may be whether the home is a place you're planning to live in for a long time, or if you're planning to resell in the future. That could also impact how 'heavy' you want to go with interior designing. Do share pictures of what types of designs you're looking at!
