@unclesam Hi UncleSam, maintaining a well-diversified portfolio is something we believe in as well. Like you mentioned, there are many bond funds managed to different mandates. Some have mandates to only invest in investment grade bonds, some invest only in Asian bonds while others buy only high yield / junk bonds. For the latter particularly, as the term ‘junk’ suggests, the companies issuing these bonds are rated below investment grade and would come with a degree of risk. These allocations in your portfolio need to be sized appropriately.

Regardless of the asset class you are investing in, assessing the strength of a fund manager vis-à-vis another fund manager is important. Our DBS fund select team evaluates funds based on considerations such as the experience, track record and management acumen of the fund management team, investment processes and strategy in managing the fund as well as past and long term returns potential. The team then assigns a rating to each fund based on the degree of conviction. Explore the fund search on our website to view some available options.

How frequently should we review our unit trust holdings? And how should we go about doing it?

@heidi Hi again! Apologies, we couldn’t share any opinion on which portfolio to top up based on your hypothetical scenario.

@heidi Hi Heidi, we think it’s fantastic that you are utilizing our DBS NAV Planner as a digital tool to aid you in your investment planning! DBS NAV Planner serves to guide you while it uncovers your investment preferences and provides relevant investment ideas for your consideration. There are a plethora of investment options to choose from, but ultimately, it all boils down to each individual’s risk appetite and personal preference. It would also be helpful for you to understand the concept of Dollar-Cost Averaging. This would allow you to keep investing over a period of time and stay invested in the market.

@brownbear32 Hi brownbear32, in short yes. The DBS CIO publishes updated views on a quarterly basis. Based on these views, our DBS investment team will review our portfolios and make any necessary adjustments during the rebalancing exercise. Do keep a lookout for the digiPortfolio quarterly rebalancing notices or the digiPortfolio dashboard for these updated views and changes!

@huilin Hi again! Ensuring diversification is one of the key priorities for every single digiPortfolio. Regardless of whether an ETF is listed in Singapore, the UK or the US, the portfolio contains ETFs that invest across different markets/ sectors to provide diversification. For instance, within our Asia Portfolio, we have SGX listed ETFs that track indices for China equities or Asia Pacific REITs. I hope this addresses your question.

@getitgt Hi getitgt, thank you for the question. digiPortfolio harnesses the investment expertise within DBS to provide ready-made portfolios for clients. The 3 teams involved are the Chief Investment Office that does the monitoring of markets and determining the house view, the fund select team that researches and reviews positive-rated funds for selection and the discretionary portfolio management team whose job is to put together core, diversified portfolios based on the views and instrument options.

@ponie4prez Hi ponie4prez, thank you for the question. What we think we are doing right is looking at client relationships holistically where deposits, cards, investments or insurance are not viewed individual ‘products’. To put them together, we aim to build simple and guided digital journeys where clients can review their financial health conveniently and layer themselves with appropriate solutions anytime, anywhere.

Some examples are programmes like the Multiplier which rewards clients based on their overall banking relationship while NAV Planner seeks to capture your holdings within and outside of DBS in a single view, identify gaps and provide personalised ideas to bridge these gaps.

Some of these personalised ideas will include investment solutions like digiPortfolio, Unit Trust online and Invest-Saver of course. In this space, we constantly review our suite of offerings as well as platform capabilities to ensure that we remain relevant to clients looking to invest with DBS.

Hi sjh1993, the DBS Focus Funds is a shortlist of positive-rated funds that are aligned with the bank’s current investment views. This is updated on a quarterly basis to factor in any changing views.

To qualify as a positive-rated fund, some of the considerations that go into the review process includes the experience, track record and management acumen of the fund management team, investment processes and strategy in managing the fund as well as past and long term returns potential.

Time is certainly on your side when you start investing early and our advice would be to understand yourself, uncover your investment preferences and tolerance before starting. NAV Planner, available at no charge on DBS digibank, is one such digital tool that can serves as a guide as you take your first steps. While it uncovers your investment preferences, it would also throw out some relevant ideas for your consideration.

I have life insurance, robo investment, have stocks in my home country (I'm a foreigner), some fixed deposits in DBS.

Yet, DBS Nav says I have >99 months of emergency funds. I want my money to work for me harder!!!! 🙂 What else should I try?

Doing research, I often see "singapore bonds" "unit trust" "etf" "reits" but I have DBS digiporfolio already. Should I even with these separately? My goal is more passive income. I can take moderate to higher risk.

PS. I don't have CDP account. Should I make one?

I already have DBS asia portfolio ($1K). I am planning to add additional amount but to global portfolio this time. Is it a good idea to diversify in this manner?

Also, fast forward to the day that I already have both asia and global portfolio and I want to top up. Next question in my mind would be "to where do I add, asia or global"?
-is it better to choose based on which fund has more loss (coz more loss = funds prices are cheaper than I own = my money can buy more)

How can bond funds (or unit trusts that comprise a portion of junk bonds) be part of a diversified investment portfolio, and what are the considerations to take to optimise a portfolio with bond funds of varying credit ratings?

With the rising focus on sustainable investing, are there plans to enhance existing product offering such as Unit Trusts or DigiPortfolio to be more “ESG friendly”? Some examples include companies with high ESG scores or donating a % of fee-income to social causes.

Are there any plans to include a dollar-cost averaging plan (DCA) for portfolios under the Digiportfolio?
