DBS DBS. Living, Breathing Asia
May 2015

Dear Valued Customer

As DBS continues to build on initiatives to make the banking experience easy and convenient, we’re also seeking to make an impact beyond banking, in the communities we’re present in.

simThis quarter, I am glad to share about how we’re doing both, while also setting our sights on the future.

Whether it’s our SMS queue system - the first to be introduced by a bank in Singapore - or the DBS Foundation’s grant programme, we’re working to create the best experiences for our customers and to enable creative solutions that would positively benefit society at large.

This month, we’re especially excited about our sponsorship of the 28th SEA Games, which will be held in conjunction with the bank’s biggest SG50 celebration for the year, the DBS Marina Regatta.

We hope you’ll join us at the buzziest event by the bay - and have fun as you soak up all we’ve got in store.

Igniting Possibilities For Everyone – DBS’ SG50 Initiatives

As a bank with deep roots in this country, the DBS story is also very much the Singapore story. And as we celebrate Singapore’s fifty years, we want to honour our legacy by giving back to the nation, while also looking ahead to the future we’d like to create. From events for the community, to programmes that seed better tomorrows, DBS is celebrating Singapore’s fifty years with initiatives for all, recognising that our expanding footprint must always be accompanied by expanding hearts.

Kids’ Big Dreams For Singapore In 50 Years
Kids’ Big Dreams For Singapore In 50 Years

POSB and the People’s Association, together with the National Library Board, recently launched the “POSB PAssion KidsWrite Campaign”, an initiative to record what children today envision for Singapore in the next 50 years, and to give these children, aged 7 to 12, an opportunity to mark their aspirations, hopes and dreams for our young nation.

An initial 100 children ambassadors selected from all primary schools in Singapore attended a 4-day creative writing workshop conducted by popular local authors like Adeline Foo, Emily Lim, A.J Low and Farah Bagharib-Kaltz. The curriculum and content for the creative writing workshop was facilitated by PA’s Lifeskills and Lifestyles Division and developed by SoCh in Action (SoCh), a social enterprise empowering children to think, voice and act to bring about positive change in the community.

Around 200 DBS staff volunteers will act as mentors to these children, to help them appreciate and gain a better understanding of Singapore today in the areas of sports, health, economy, and community. The children from these workshops will be the KidsWrite ambassadors, inspiring their peers to contribute ideas and visions of future Singapore as part of the campaign.

All entries will be showcased on an online portal, with the best ones compiled into a hardcopy SG50 commemorative book. The book will subsequently be unveiled at the annual POSB PAssion Run for Kids event on 13 September 2015.

To further support this initiative, POSB PAssion Kids Fund will be setting aside SGD 1 million over two years for enrichment community programmes to empower the children - our next generation of leaders - with knowledge/skills that bring them closer to their dreams.

Goodbye standing queues
Challenging the status quo with innovative services

On top of recent initiatives introduced by DBS/POSB to provide new and innovative ways for customers to access the bank’s services, while enhancing their branch experience, we added the newly-launched SMS queue system (SMS ‘Q’), which allows customers to request for a queue number via SMS before visiting our branches, and to receive notifications on the number of customers ahead of them. This is the first such service to be introduced by a bank in Singapore, and has been rolled out to all of our full-service branches. By not having to wait in line, customers can use the time before their turn as they choose. Traditional standing queues have been replaced too – there are now seats for customers to wait their turn in comfort.

Virtual Account Opening Service
We also took on efforts to add value to customers even further with DBS SME Banking’s launch of the Virtual Account Opening Service, another industry first in Singapore.

Instead of having to meet a Relationship Manager or a branch teller to open a business bank account, SME customers can now complete the application by speaking to their Relationship Manager through mobile or tablet video applications such as FaceTime and Skype, at their convenience, and in the comfort of their home or office. Existing retail and corporate DBS’ customers also have the option of completing the application process through a phone call.

DBS Bank ranked top performer in Customer Satisfaction Index

We round off this letter with more good news. Our efforts to raise the bar in service standards has borne fruit - the Customer Satisfaction Index of Singapore (CSISG) released its 2014 results recently, and DBS Bank rose to the top spot with the highest customer satisfaction scores in the bank sector. The index polled more than 41,000 Singaporeans and tourists last year to keep tabs on customer service. This achievement was made possible by DBS’ relentless drive to enhance our banking experience for our customers.

Best Bank In Singapore - And More

Leading financial publication Global Finance has named us the Best Bank in Singapore for the second consecutive year. And at the 12th Annual HRM awards, we were honoured to receive the Best Work-Life Balance, Best Reward & Recognition Strategies and the coveted Employer of Choice awards.

On the CSR front, we came up tops in the Social Enterprise - Education category at the Singapore Creative CSR awards, which recognises companies with an educational mission to build the capacity of social enterprises, to help strengthen civil society in Singapore.

We would like to thank you for your continued support, and are further encouraged by these wins, to push towards our goal of making banking more joyful and trustworthy.

Yours sincerely,
Sim S Lim
