There is a limit of amount payable applicable under specified sections. Please refer to the policy wordings for the full details of the terms, conditions and exclusions of this insurance.

  1. All TravellerShield Plans are available to Singaporeans and persons ordinarily residing in Singapore (including foreigners holding an employment pass or work permit). It will only cover a round trip commencing from and returning to Singapore within the period of insurance.
  2. Adult means a person aged 18 years and above at the commencement of any trip.
  3. Child means the Insured’s legal Child who is aged above 1 month old and below 18 years. In the case of Family Cover, the Child's age is extended up to 23 years old if the Child is unmarried, unemployed and studying full time in a recognised institution of higher learning at the start of any Journey. The benefit payable will be subject to the limit for “Insured Child”.
  4. Family Cover means a policy issued to the Insured in respect of the Insured Persons who are travelling as a family, and comprise the Insured, his/her legal spouse and any number of their legal Child(ren). For an Annual Policy, the Insured Persons under a Family Cover are not required to travel together on a trip.
  5. For Family Cover, each Adult Insured Person will enjoy the benefit limit applicable under Individual Cover while each Insured Child will enjoy the Child coverage ie. subject to benefit limit for “Insured Child”. The total limit for Family Cover applies.
  6. Maximum period for each trip is 180 consecutive days and 90 consecutive days for Single Trip Plans and Annual Plans respectively.
  7. For Child(ren) under the aged of 12 years, a parent or Adult guardian must accompany the Child during the trip.
  8. This Policy does not cover any loss, injury or liability arising directly or indirectly from circumstances or medical conditions giving rise to a claim under this Policy known to have existed prior to the Period of Insurance.
  9. If you are insured under more than one travel insurance policy underwritten by MSIG Insurance for the same trip, MSIG Insurance will only be liable for the policy which provides the highest benefits limits.
  10. For a Single Trip Policy, you may cancel the policy at any time prior to commencement of the period of insurance, provided no claims are made and MSIG Insurance will retain a minimum premium of S$50.
  11. For an Annual Policy, you may cancel the Policy at any time during the Period of Insurance by giving 7 days written notice to MSIG Insurance. If at the time of cancellation, the Policy is in force for 180 days or less, you will be entitled to a refund of premium based on our short period rates (as stated in the Policy) provided no claim is made. No refund is allowed if your Policy is in force for more than 180 days.

TravellerShield is open to all Singaporeans and foreigners residing in Singapore (with Employment Pass or Work Permit) and travelling for round trips from and to Singapore.

  1. Which type of cover should you choose?

    • Individual Cover – it provides Cover for you only.
    • Family Cover – if you are travelling as a family with your legal spouse and any number of your legal child(ren)#. This option gives you a special family rate for buying the Family Cover. For the Single Trip Plan, the family needs to travel together. For the Annual Plan, each family member can travel individually, but any child under the age of 12 years old must travel with at least 1 of the adults.
    • Group Cover – if you are travelling as a group with up to 6 individuals (including yourself) on a Single return trip journey. Group Cover is only applicable to Single Trip Plan.

     

    # The Insured Child who is aged above 1 month old and below 18 years old or below 23 years old provided the Child is unmarried, unemployed and studying full time in a recognised institution of higher learning at the start of any Journey. The benefits payable will be subject to the limit for "Insured Child".

     

  2. How often do you travel?

    • Single Trip Plan – if you do not travel often, enjoy affordable premiums with this plan covering your single round trip. The premiums are calculated based on your trip duration.
    • Annual Plan – if you travel frequently, enjoy attractive savings and convenience with this plan as you will be automatically covered for unlimited number of round trips made during the 12-month period.

     

  3. Which geographical area(s) are you travelling to?

    We have grouped the countries into 3 travel regions.

    • Area 1: Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam
    • Area 2: Australia, China (excluding Inner Mongolia and Tibet), Hong Kong, India, Japan, Korea, Macau, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Taiwan and including countries in Area 1
    • Area 3: Worldwide including countries in Area 1 and Area 2

     

    If you are travelling to more than one country, please select the travel region (Area 1, Area 2 or Area 3) of your furthest destination from Singapore. For example, if you are travelling to Thailand and USA, please select “Area 3” as USA is the furthest “Area” from Singapore and is classified under “Area 3”.

     

  4. How much coverage do you need?

    • Classic Plan – typically, this covers all situations you are likely to face on your travels, from lost luggage to hospitalisation in a foreign country.
    • Premier Plan – this gives you a higher coverage amount for major benefits and provides cover for additional situations - from car rental excesses to credit card loss.
    • Platinum Plan – this offers the highest coverage for unforeseen situations such as injuries and illness. You can travel far and wide knowing that you have the safety net when things go wrong. TravellerShield FAQ

Singaporeans, Singapore Permanent Residents and foreigners aged 18 years and above and residing in Singapore can buy TravellerShield.

Foreigners should also be holding either an employment pass, work permit, dependent’s pass or long term visit pass to be eligible.

The insurance covers a round trip commencing from and returning to Singapore within the Period of Insurance.


It provides cover for the Insured, his/her legal spouse and any number of their legal Child(ren) who are travelling as a Family.

If you bought a Family Annual Policy, the Insured Persons under the Family Cover are not required to travel together on a Journey, but any Insured Child under the age of 12 years must be accompanied by a parent or Adult guardian for any Journey.

Yes, you can be the applicant of your Child’s TravellerShield policy and insure your Child only.

For Children under the age of 12 years, a parent or Adult guardian must accompany the Child during the Journey.


If your Child is below 18 years old, he/she will be eligible for “Insured Child” coverage.

If your Child is between 18 to 23 years old and studying full time in a recognised institution of higher learning, he/she will be eligible for “Insured Adult” coverage.


Yes, you are only eligible for TravellerShield Single Trip Plans and there are specified sum insured amounts for certain benefits. Please refer to the Policy for details of coverage.


A Single Return Trip Policy covers the entire return trip (not exceeding 180 consecutive days) from the time the Insured Person leaves his/her home or workplace in Singapore for the sole purpose of commencing a trip abroad to 3 hours after returning to Singapore or on the expiry date of the Period of Insurance shown in the Schedule, whichever is sooner.


You can apply for TravellerShield as long as your departure date is within 182 days from date of application.


If you travel frequently, buy an Annual Policy for attractive savings and convenience as you are automatically covered for all your trips taken during the Period of Insurance. You can make unlimited number of trips during the Period of Insurance, provided each trip does not exceed 90 consecutive days from the departure date.

If you bought a Family Annual Policy, the Insured Persons under the Family Cover are not required to travel together on a Journey. However, any Child Insured Person under the age of 12 years must be accompanied by a parent or Adult Guardian for any Journey.


We have divided the world into three areas. If you are going to more than one country, please select the furthest “Area” from Singapore in your itinerary as your destination. For example, if you are travelling to Thailand and USA, please select “Area 3” as USA is classified under Area 3.

Yes, you can buy TravellerShield so long as you have not boarded the plane, provided at the time of applying the insurance you are not aware of any circumstances which are likely to lead to a claim.


Yes, TravellerShield Premier and Platinum Plans cover bungee jumping, sky diving, paragliding, helicopter rides for sightseeing, hot air ballooning, jet skiing, mountaineering at mountains below the height of 3,000 metres above sea level, skiing or snowboarding within official approved areas of a ski resort, canoeing or white water rafting with a qualified guide and below Grade 4 (of International Scale of River Difficulty), and underwater activities involving artificial breathing apparatus for diving up to a maximum depth of 30 metres with a qualified diving instructor or a qualified divemaster and with recognised diving certification. These activities must be done for leisure purposes and with a licensed operator.


Yes, you can still buy TravellerShield. However, pre-existing medical or physical conditions which required consultation or treatment during the 12 months before the start of the trip will be excluded.


Yes, exclusions include:

  • Known events that were reported by the media, or through a travel advice issued by a local or foreign authority
  • Participation in any organised team football, speed or time trials, competitions, sprints or racing of any kind, or as a professional sportsperson who earns income, remuneration or sponsorship
  • Engagement in military services or operations, manual work, offshore work, mining, aerial photography, flying or other aerial activities (except travelling as a fare paying passenger on a commercial airline)

Before trip commences:
You can only change the commencement date if you notify MSIG Insurance prior to the commencement of your trip or Period of Insurance, whichever is sooner, subject to an administrative charge of S$10.

While overseas:
Only trip extension is permissible once the trip commences. It is permitted midway during travel and within the Period of Insurance provided there are no known circumstances or events likely to lead to claim, subject to a minimum premium of S$10.


For a Single Return Trip Policy, you may cancel the Policy at any time prior to commencement of the Period of Insurance, provided no claims are made and MSIG Insurance will retain a minimum premium of S$50.

About Online Application FAQ

We accept payment via MasterCard/ VISA/ AMEX credit card and DBS PayLah! mobile wallet.

For payment using credit cards, please disable the pop-up blocker for the transaction to go through smoothly.

For payment using DBS Paylah!, please ensure that DBS Paylah! app is installed in your smartphone with a registered wallet account.


The credit card deduction will be displayed in the cardholder’s credit card statement as “MSIG Insurance”.


DBS PayLah! is a personal mobile wallet which allows users to perform funds transfer via a mobile number. It is available to both DBS/POSB and non-DBS/POSB customers. To find out more about DBS PayLah!, click here.


  1. Select DBS Paylah! payment option at TravellerShield’s Payment Details section and on the TeleMoney Electronic Payments Page.
  2. Input your DBS PayLah! mobile number when prompted and click “Confirm”. You will be directed to your DBS PayLah! app for login.
  3. Once logged in, verify your payment details on the Review Payment Page and tap on “Pay Now”. Click on “Done” to complete the payment on the Payment Complete screen.
  4. The TeleMoney Electronic Payments Page will state that “Your Transaction is successful”. Click on “OK” to continue.
  5. You will be directed to an Acknowledgement Page showing your TravellerShield application details. At the same time, an SMS confirmation will be sent to your mobile number.

You will have to top up your DBS Paylah! wallet using your DBS PayLah! app before proceeding with payment. To find out how to do so, click here.


There is no administrative fee for paying your travel insurance premium using DBS PayLah!.


You will receive an email and SMS acknowledgement once your payment and transaction is successfully processed.
