What can I do to protect my online confidentiality?

The following guidelines may help you to further protect your online data confidentiality:

  1. Keep your Password confidential
    • DO NOT reveal your Password to anyone
    • DO NOT write it down, especially where someone else may get to see it
    • Change your Password IMMEDIATELY, in the trading site, if you suspect it has been revealed
    • Change your Password periodically, about once in 90 days
    • Do not choose a Password that is easily identifiable, such as your User ID, telephone number, birth-date or identification number

Note: No staff at DBS Vickers should ever ask you for your Password.

  2. Always remember to logout

Log out of the secure site when you want to end your online session or when you leave your computer, even for a short while. This immediately terminates your session and thereby prevents further transactions from being carried out without a fresh log-on.

  3. Use the latest recommended browser

Always use the latest recommended Internet browser so that you are using the most updated security features available. Clear your browser's cache after each session so that your account information is removed, especially if you are using a shared PC.

  4. Inform us of any problem

Contact us immediately if you notice any unusual transactions in your account. Contact our Investment Service Centre. Information such as your account number, transaction type, date and time of transaction, description of error and amount involved as well as your last login date and time will help in our investigation. If you suspect discrepancies due to lost/stolen Password, please contact us immediately.

  5. Avoid storing Password when using Internet Explorer browsers

In Microsoft Internet Explorer, the "AutoComplete" function stores and lists possible matches from entries that you have typed previously. You can prevent any passwords (including your Password) from being stored in Internet Explorer by de-activating the "AutoComplete" function:
    1. Launch your Internet Explorer 7 and click on "Tools" >> "Internet Options" >> "Content".
    2. Under "AutoComplete", click on "Settings".
    3. Uncheck "User names and passwords on forms" and click on "OK" to save the changes.
    4. Users, please also ensure that the "AutoComplete" function is de-activated after use.

  6. Avoid using shared/public PCs for Online Trading

We strongly advise against conducting your online trading transactions on shared or public PCs. However if you do, always clear your browser cache after each session on such PCs to ensure your account information is removed.
