What is the Beverage Container Return Scheme (BCRS)?

The Beverage Container Return Scheme (BCRS) is a nationwide recycling scheme which encourages consumers to recycle their empty plastic bottles and metal beverage cans at dedicated return points across Singapore.

According to the National Environment Agency, the scheme will cover more than one billion beverage containers used each year, recovering over 16,000 tonnes of material annually. This means less waste sent for incineration, lower carbon emissions and a more circular economy.

From 1 Apr 2026, consumers in Singapore can receive refunds for returning eligible beverage bottles and cans at Return Right Reverse Vending Machines (RVMs), which are operated by BCRS Ltd. For more information, please visit the BCRS website here.

How does DBS PayLah! integrate with the return scheme?

DBS PayLah! is integrated as a convenient digital refund option. When you return eligible containers at a Return Right machine, you can select DBS PayLah! as your preferred refund method to receive your refund credited directly to your PayLah! wallet.

Do I need a DBS/POSB bank account to use DBS PayLah! for refunds?

DBS PayLah! is open to all users in Singapore with a Singapore-registered mobile number.

  • Singaporeans and Permanent Residents may sign up for PayLah! via Singpass MyInfo without a DBS/POSB bank account.
  • Non-Singaporeans/Permanent Residents with a DBS/POSB bank account and digibank may also sign up.
How will I know if the refund has been credited to my DBS PayLah! wallet?

Ensure your DBS PayLah! app is updated to the latest version via your app store.

The refunds will be reflected in the wallet balance or transaction history in the DBS PayLah! app. A notification will also be sent via the app to confirm transaction.

Can PayLah! users transfer the refunded amount to their bank accounts?
